Museum Experience:
SMK Kreate
Design Research & Exploration - Experience Design - Prototyping
Designing for engaging museum experiences was the challenge proposed by Statens Museum for Kunst (SMK). This project was thus an exploration, through design, into how amateur artists can gain inspiration from the collection, separate from the time and space constrictions of a museum.
Part of the challenge was to utilize the recently deployed API, providing access to the artwork collection.
We designed a concept, SMK Kreate (henceforth “Kreate”), which is a platform users can utilize to engage with the art in a new and inspiring way. Kreate is, at its core, an inspiration tool, where the user is presented with a feed of artwork pulled from the API, which the user then can build their own inspirational moodboards from.
This project was made in collaboration with Marie M. Staunstrup.
Prototyping.
A physical prototype was created prior to the digital versions, to aid us in uncovering the processes that goes behind arranging imagery in inspiring constellations. Even though our concept is envisioned to be a screen-based digital product, we choose to work with a physical prototype to explore the subject of inspiration without the constraints that a digital prototype might have. This enabled the participants to clearly see and feel how it was possible to interact with the prototype, without being impeded by “digital habits” or restrictions of technology.
Two digital prototypes were created furthering from this - a visual prototype, using Figma, and then an implementation prototype, using HTML, CSS and JavaScript (P5 - an interpretation of Processing). The visual prototype was used to test the digital aspects on a surface-level, whereas the implementation prototype was used to test technical feasibility.
